Tashreeq Matthews Delivers a Powerful Message Before Marumo Gallants Carling Knockout Rematch: Sundowns Seek Retribution

Ahead of the Brazilians' Carling Knockout Round of 16 match against Marumo Gallants, Mamelodi Sundowns winger Tashreeq Matthews has made it plain that his team is committed to winning following their heartbreaking elimination last season.

Because Gallants eliminated Sundowns at the same stage of the competition the previous season, the next match is especially important to them. That outcome serves as a crucial reminder that success in knockout football cannot be assured solely by reputation.

But according to Matthews, Sundowns need to focus on the task at hand and approach the game with a winning mindset.

"It's crucial that we play to win. We want to win the game and are lucky to have Marumo Gallants back," Matthews stated.

His remarks highlight the Sundowns team's resolve to advance in a league where a single poor showing may quickly kill a club's hopes.

Matthews Explains the Sundowns' Goals

Matthews' top priority is simple: Sundowns need to perform well enough to advance to the next round.

The Tshwane giants now rely heavily on the winger as an offensive option because of his speed, agility, and capacity to pose a threat to opposition defences in wide areas. Against a Gallants team keen to build on last season's success, his contribution might prove beneficial.

Because Sundowns are used to contending for trophies, their fans anticipate that the team will put up a fierce fight whenever there is a chance to win.

But the strain of the Carling Knockout is different from that of a league campaign. Concentration and sound decision-making are crucial from the first whistle because there is little time to recover from a bad outcome.

According to Matthews' remarks, the players are approaching the game with a clear goal and are aware of what is at risk.

The Marumo Gallants continue to be a formidable foe.

In knockout football, Gallants have already shown that they can cause problems for Sundowns. Last season, they eliminated the Brazilians at this point, demonstrating that tenacious opponents may exploit a favorite's weakness.

Sundowns cannot afford to regard the encounter as a typical task because of that background.

The chance to defeat one of the nation's most prestigious teams once more will inspire gallants, who will have their own goals in the competition.

It will be essential for Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso to emotionally and tactically prepare the players. His teammates must avoid making mistakes that could offer Gallants an opportunity while striking a balance between their offensive prowess and defensive discipline.
