Patrick ‘Tito’ Maswanganyi’s future at Al-Khaldiya SC has become a talking point among South African football supporters following reports suggesting that his contract with the Bahraini club had been terminated. However, the former Orlando Pirates midfielder’s representatives have strongly rejected the claims, describing the circulating reports as fake news and suggesting that someone is deliberately trying to damage his reputation.
Arnold Rankoko, Maswanganyi’s representative and long-time confidante, has spoken out about the speculation, making it clear that there is no truth to the suggestion that the South African international has been dismissed by his new club.
Speaking to KickOff, Rankoko expressed frustration with how quickly the allegations spread without, in his view, proper verification from the player, his representatives or the club.
“There is someone who clearly has it in for this boy,” Rankoko said, according to Goal’s report of the interview.
The representative went further, suggesting that the reports were part of an attempt to portray Maswanganyi as an undisciplined footballer. He insisted that the midfielder was still preparing for his club’s upcoming fixture and encouraged people to look at Al-Khaldiya’s social media activity rather than rely on unverified claims.
The controversy emerged shortly after reports circulated suggesting that Maswanganyi’s relationship with the Bahraini outfit had broken down following an alleged disagreement involving a member of the technical team. Those allegations created considerable discussion among South African supporters, particularly because the midfielder had only recently left the Betway Premiership to pursue an opportunity abroad.
However, it is important to distinguish between speculation and confirmed developments. No independently verified club announcement confirming the termination of Maswanganyi’s contract has emerged in the reporting reviewed for this article. His representative’s denial is therefore an important development in the story.
Maswanganyi joined Al-Khaldiya in August 2026 after Orlando Pirates confirmed that an agreement had been reached for his transfer. The Buccaneers explained at the time that the 28-year-old had expressed a desire to pursue a new opportunity outside South Africa following discussions with the club and his representatives.
His departure marked the end of an important chapter at Orlando Pirates, where he established himself as a popular figure among the supporters. His creativity, close control and ability to operate between the opposition’s defensive and midfield lines made him an influential attacking player during his time in Soweto.
Rankoko also defended the midfielder’s personality, arguing that his quiet nature should not be confused with arrogance or poor discipline. He compared Maswanganyi to Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise, suggesting that both players are naturally reserved away from the football pitch.
The representative also mentioned former South African football greats Doctor Khumalo and Brian Baloyi, arguing that public perception does not always reflect a player’s actual personality.
There is another important aspect to this story. Rankoko claimed that Maswanganyi had featured in all of Al-Khaldiya’s matches since arriving in Bahrain and had registered two assists in eight games. This account differs from some earlier media reports suggesting that the midfielder had made only two appearances. The discrepancy highlights why supporters should be cautious about accepting every statistic or claim circulating online without checking its source.
Perhaps the most significant part of Rankoko’s intervention was his suggestion that the negative attention surrounding Maswanganyi contributed to the player’s decision to leave South African football. He even indicated that a return to the domestic game was unlikely, although this remains his personal assessment rather than an official decision announced by the player.
For Orlando Pirates supporters, the developments will bring back memories of a player who contributed significantly during his spell at the club. However, Maswanganyi has now embarked on a different chapter of his career, and his immediate priority should be establishing himself in Bahrain.
The situation also raises an important question about how South African footballers are treated when they move overseas. Players should be judged on their performances, professionalism and conduct, but serious allegations deserve proper verification before being presented as facts.
For now, Maswanganyi’s camp has firmly rejected the contract termination narrative. Until Al-Khaldiya or the player provides further official clarification, supporters should avoid treating the circulating claims as confirmed news. The midfielder deserves the opportunity to let his performances in Bahrain define this new chapter of his career.
