Mamelodi Sundowns are set to retain 100% of the revenue generated from the CAF Super Cup final against USM Alger, scheduled to take place in South Africa on November 8. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has outlined the organisational, security and commercial requirements for the continental showdown, with the South African club expected to play a major role in hosting the event.
As preparations continue, Sundowns will be responsible for several arrangements, including training facilities, transportation, accommodation, ticketing and security. CAF confirmed that it received the initial squad lists from both teams by October 16 as preparations for the final progressed.
One of the key requirements is that Sundowns must hand over the stadium and training facilities to CAF seven days before the match. The venue must also provide two training pitches with similar playing surfaces, with one specifically reserved for USM Alger to ensure the Algerian side has suitable conditions for its preparations.
Accommodation and transportation arrangements will also form part of the hosting responsibilities. CAF will organise accommodation for its official delegations in Johannesburg or Pretoria, while Sundowns must provide lodging for approximately 18 CAF officials, including referees and Video Assistant Referee (VAR) personnel.
The club is further required to arrange a vehicle for the head of the USM Alger delegation and buses capable of transporting at least 50 members of the visiting team's delegation.
Security preparations will be coordinated by the South African Football Association (SAFA) and Sundowns. Both parties must submit their security plans and details of the personnel involved to CAF for approval before the final.
Ticketing arrangements are another important aspect of the event. Tickets must be available for purchase at least five days before kick-off, while supporters travelling to support USM Alger will receive five per cent of the stadium's seating capacity. The allocation is intended to accommodate the Algerian club's travelling supporters.
Financially, Sundowns stand to benefit from one of the most significant provisions in the hosting arrangements, as the club will receive all proceeds generated by the match. Both finalists must also provide five signed jerseys each for promotional purposes, while CAF will supply the official match balls.
Advertising regulations will also apply during the build-up to the final. From three days before the match, only advertisements authorised by CAF will be permitted within the designated areas.
The final is expected to receive extensive television coverage, with 28 cameras scheduled to be installed at the stadium to support the broadcast production. A Man of the Match award will also be presented, while CAF's commercial department will oversee promotional activities surrounding the event.
Although the official television rights holders have not yet been announced, the match is expected to attract international audiences.
With the financial benefits and extensive hosting responsibilities now outlined, Sundowns and USM Alger will continue preparing for their November 8 encounter. Further information about the broadcast arrangements is expected as CAF finalises the remaining details ahead of the final.
