Mandla Ncikazi Returns to Golden Arrows in 'Home Sweet Home' Coaching Move

According to reports surrounding the latest coaching changes in South African football, Mandla Ncikazi has been unveiled as the new head coach of Golden Arrows, marking his return to the Durban-based club after leaving Orlando Pirates.

The experienced coach begins a new chapter in his career after spending several seasons as part of the Buccaneers’ technical team. His departure comes just a week before the highly anticipated Soweto Derby, adding further attention to the timing of his exit from the Soweto giants.

Ncikazi previously established himself at Golden Arrows during the 2020/21 campaign, when he guided the team to a fourth-place finish in the league. That achievement highlighted his ability to organise a competitive side and challenge some of the established teams in the Betway Premiership.

His return represents an opportunity to build on the progress made during his first spell at the club. Having worked with Golden Arrows before, Ncikazi already understands the club’s environment, expectations and the challenges associated with competing in South Africa’s top division.

This familiarity could prove valuable as he settles into his new responsibilities and begins working towards improving the team’s performances.

During his time at Orlando Pirates, Ncikazi served as an important member of the technical team, working alongside different head coaches while the club competed in domestic and continental competitions. His experience with the Buccaneers exposed him to the demands of managing a team with significant expectations from supporters and management.

His departure now creates a change within the Pirates’ technical structure as the club continues its campaign across multiple competitions.

For Golden Arrows, appointing a coach who has previously delivered positive results offers an opportunity to pursue greater consistency in the league. Supporters will be watching closely to see whether Ncikazi can recreate some of the success he achieved during his earlier tenure.

However, returning to a familiar club also presents challenges, as past achievements do not automatically guarantee similar results. Ncikazi will need to assess the current squad, identify areas requiring improvement and establish a tactical approach suited to the players available.

His immediate task will be to help Golden Arrows strengthen their performances and compete more consistently against their Premiership rivals.

As Ncikazi begins his second spell in Durban, attention will focus on how quickly he adapts to the demands of the role and whether his previous experience with Abafana Bes’thende can translate into further progress for the club.
