Orlando Pirates Star Deon Hotto Turns 36 as Ouaddou Delivers Special Tribute

Orlando Pirates utility player Deon Hotto celebrates his 36th birthday on Thursday, 29 October 2026, with head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou previously describing the Namibian international as an African football legend and his right-hand man at the Soweto giants.

Hotto has been an important member of the Buccaneers since joining the club in 2020. His versatility, experience and exceptional work rate have helped him remain a valuable asset, earning the respect of teammates, coaches and supporters.

Ouaddou has openly acknowledged the veteran's influence within the Pirates dressing room, highlighting the leadership qualities that make him stand out beyond his performances on the pitch.

"Look, I already said that Hotto is my right-hand man in the team. He is the captain. He is an African legend, not only in South Africa," Ouaddou said.

The Moroccan tactician also emphasised that Hotto represents more than his home country, describing him as a figure who belongs to the entire African continent.

"He is our boy. He is an African boy. He's not only a Namibian boy, he is a Moroccan boy, he is a Nigerian boy, and a South African boy. He belongs to Africa, this boy," he added.

Since arriving at Pirates, Hotto has demonstrated remarkable adaptability, operating as both a winger and a left-back whenever required. His contributions have helped the club secure several domestic honours, including MTN8 and Nedbank Cup titles.

He was also part of the Pirates squad that reportedly won the 2025/26 Premier Soccer League title, further strengthening his reputation as an experienced campaigner.

At 36, Hotto's professionalism and commitment remain valuable as Pirates navigate a demanding season involving domestic competitions and continental football.

For Ouaddou, the Namibian's greatest contribution extends beyond goals, assists and trophies. His attitude, discipline and willingness to serve the team provide an example for younger players.

As supporters celebrate Hotto's birthday, Buccaneers faithful have plenty of reasons to appreciate his service. What is your favourite Deon Hotto moment in an Orlando Pirates shirt?
