Siyethemba Sithebe, a former midfielder for Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu FC, has signed with Flamingo FC, which competes in the SAFA King Cetshwayo Regional League Stream B. This move allows the seasoned midfielder to continue his football career after being away from professional play for over a year.
At 33 years old, Sithebe's last association was with Richards Bay, where he departed in February of the previous year. He aimed to revitalize his career when he joined the KwaZulu-Natal club, but struggled to find consistent playing time, appearing in only eight matches before leaving.
Now at Flamingo FC, Sithebe is anticipated to leverage his experience to aid the club in achieving its ambitions. Competing in the fourth division, Flamingo FC hopes he can make a significant impact as they strive for promotion to the third division.
Sithebe has played for some of South Africa's prominent clubs, with his most notable success at AmaZulu, where he played 132 matches across all competitions, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists. His time at AmaZulu earned him a move to Kaizer Chiefs, where he faced high expectations but was unable to meet them, finishing with 39 appearances without scoring.
After his stint at Chiefs, he joined Richards Bay, but his time there was brief and unfruitful, leading to just eight appearances. His transfer to Flamingo FC marks a crucial opportunity for him to return to regular football.
Sithebe has also represented Bafana Bafana, earning two caps for the national team in 2020. His experience at both the club and international levels could be an asset to Flamingo FC as they seek to strengthen their squad for promotion.
While this move takes him out of professional leagues, Sithebe can continue playing for a club that has aspirations of moving up the South African football hierarchy. Flamingo FC is optimistic that his experience will aid their promotion efforts, and Sithebe aims to make the most of this new phase in his career.
