Manqoba Mngqithi’s Young Africans Beat CFFA 4-0

Young Africans took a 4-0 lead in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second-round preliminary tie against Madagascar’s CFFA on Saturday. The result puts the Tanzanian side in a strong position ahead of the return leg.

The match was even for long periods in the first half. Young Africans controlled more of the ball but found it difficult to create clear chances. They broke the deadlock in the 39th minute when Cheikh Touré scored to give them a 1-0 lead at half-time.

The second half began with a quick response from the visitors. Albert Kangwanda scored two minutes after the restart to make it 2-0. Mudathir Yahya added a third goal in the 54th minute, and Maxi Nzengeli completed the scoring in the 59th minute. The three goals in a short space of time settled the match, and Young Africans managed the remaining time without much pressure.

The win comes under South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi, who took charge of Young Africans in July after leaving Golden Arrows. He has previous experience in the competition, having been part of the Mamelodi Sundowns side that won the CAF Champions League in 2016. He later coached Sundowns as head coach before moving to Tanzania.

The result follows a recent league defeat to rivals Simba SC. A comfortable win in this tie will help the team as they look to reach the group stages. With a four-goal advantage, Young Africans have a clear lead, though Mngqithi is likely to stress the need for a professional performance in the second leg.

South African supporters will continue to follow the campaign. The first-leg result has given Mngqithi’s side a solid start in this round of the competition.
