Transfer Tug Of War: Three Egyptian Clubs Reportedly Want Former Al Ahly Star Percy Tau

Percy Tau gypt Return Bombshell! Three Clubs Reportedly Eye The Bafana Bafana Star Ahead Of January

South African football star Percy Tau could be heading back to Egypt, with reports suggesting that three Egyptian Premier League clubs are interested in signing the experienced attacker during the January transfer window.

The former Al Ahly forward is currently without a club after leaving Vietnamese outfit Thep Xanh Nam Dinh FC earlier in 2026. His availability as a free agent could create an opportunity for Egyptian teams looking to strengthen their attacking options without paying a transfer fee.

According to a report published by Africa Top Sports on 29 October 2026, Ceramica Cleopatra, Al Ittihad Alexandria and Modern Sport have all shown interest in the South African international.

Although the reported interest has generated excitement among supporters, no agreement has been officially confirmed. Tau’s next destination therefore remains uncertain as the January transfer window approaches.

Three Egyptian Clubs Linked With Tau

Ceramica Cleopatra, Al Ittihad Alexandria and Modern Sport are reportedly among the clubs considering a move for the 32-year-old attacker.

Each club would have to assess whether Tau fits its tactical plans, financial structure and ambitions for the remainder of the campaign.

For a player with experience in several countries and major continental competitions, a return to Egypt could provide an opportunity to rebuild momentum and compete in a familiar football environment.

Tau previously played for Al Ahly between 2021 and 2024, establishing himself as an important attacking option during a successful period for the Cairo giants.

His time at the club included domestic trophies and continental success, helping him develop a reputation as one of South Africa’s most accomplished modern football exports.

However, his reported links with the three clubs should not be interpreted as confirmation that negotiations have reached an advanced stage.

After leaving Al Ahly, Tau continued his career with Qatar SC before moving to Vietnam to join Nam Dinh in September 2025.

His Vietnamese spell provided another international experience, but it lasted only one campaign. Nam Dinh subsequently confirmed his departure, leaving him searching for his next opportunity.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker has since attracted attention as he considers the next stage of his career. Reports have linked him with several possible destinations, but none has resulted in a confirmed new contract.

Remaining a free agent means Tau can negotiate with interested clubs, although any move would still depend on the terms offered and the player's own decision.

A return to Egyptian football would bring Tau back to a league where he previously enjoyed considerable success.

His familiarity with the country's football environment could help him settle quickly, while his experience with Al Ahly and other international clubs could offer valuable leadership to a new team.

Nevertheless, the important question is whether a prospective club can provide the right sporting project, playing opportunities and contract conditions.

At 32, Tau will want his next move to offer more than simply a return to competitive football. Regular minutes and a suitable role could be important as he looks to revive his career.
