Mamelodi Sundowns' performances during the 2025/26 season have drawn attention to the contribution of midfielder Teboho Mokoena, with statistics comparing the team's results with and without him highlighting his importance to the squad.

The Bafana Bafana international has established himself as an influential figure in the Sundowns midfield, where his ability to win possession, distribute the ball and contribute defensively makes him an important option for the technical team.

Although Sundowns have considerable quality across their squad, the numbers from the 2025/26 campaign provide an opportunity to examine how the team performed when Mokoena was available compared with matches in which he was absent.

Mokoena's role goes beyond simply completing passes or breaking up opposition attacks. His presence in midfield can help Sundowns maintain their structure, control possession and transition quickly between defence and attack.

The midfielder is also known for his ability to compete physically, recover the ball and deliver long-range passes. These qualities make him valuable in matches where Sundowns need to dominate the midfield battle or find ways to break down organised opponents.

Sundowns have built a reputation for maintaining a competitive squad capable of handling demanding domestic and continental schedules. Their depth allows the coaching staff to rotate players when necessary, but the absence of an established midfielder can still affect the team's balance and tactical approach.

Comparing the team's results with and without Mokoena therefore offers an interesting perspective on his influence. However, such statistics must be considered alongside other factors, including the strength of the opposition, the availability of other key players and the circumstances of individual matches.

The comparison does not automatically mean Sundowns cannot perform well without him. Instead, it highlights the contribution of a player who has become an important part of the team's midfield setup.

For Mokoena, maintaining fitness and consistency will remain important as Sundowns continue competing for major honours. His experience and international pedigree also make him a valuable presence within the squad.

Ultimately, the statistics from the 2025/26 season underline the importance of assessing individual contributions within a team context. Sundowns possess quality throughout their squad, but Mokoena's role demonstrates why having influential midfielders can make a significant difference over the course of a demanding campaign.
