South African attacker Devin Titus played a part in Maghreb Fes’ impressive victory over ASEC Mimosas as the Moroccan side secured progression to the CAF Champions League group stage.
Maghreb Fes defeated ASEC Mimosas 2-1 in the second leg of their second preliminary-round tie on Sunday night. The result proved decisive after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw, with Titus providing an assist in that encounter.
The Moroccan side advanced with a 3-2 aggregate victory, overcoming a challenging contest against the Ivorian outfit to move into the next phase of Africa’s premier club competition.
Titus’ contribution across the two legs will be encouraging for the South African forward, who continues to gain experience competing outside his home country. His assist in the opening match helped Maghreb Fes secure a valuable result ahead of the return fixture.
The second-leg victory ensured that the Moroccan champions completed the job in front of their supporters, with the team’s two goals proving enough to settle the tie despite ASEC Mimosas’ efforts.
South African striker Tshegofatso Mabasa was also included in the matchday squad but began the encounter on the bench.
Maghreb Fes’ qualification marks an important step in their continental campaign, as the club now prepares to compete against some of Africa’s leading teams in the group stage.
For Titus, reaching this stage provides another opportunity to showcase his ability on the continental platform and build momentum as the competition progresses.
The result also offers South African football followers another reason to monitor the performances of local players making their mark in African club football.
