Former Kaizer Chiefs and AmaZulu FC midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has signed with Flamingo FC, a fourth-division team competing in the SAFA King Cetshwayo Regional League Stream B. This move marks his return to professional football after being away for over a year.
At 33, Sithebe has had a varied career, having played for prominent South African clubs and making two appearances for Bafana Bafana in 2020. Joining Flamingo FC offers him a chance to play regularly again and use his experience to assist the team in reaching their goals.
Sithebe has been out of a professional setup since departing Richards Bay in February of the previous year. He initially joined the KwaZulu-Natal club aiming to revitalize his career but struggled to secure a consistent position on the team.
During his tenure at Richards Bay, he only featured in eight matches before transitioning to Mbombela United. His latest move to Flamingo FC presents a new opportunity to stay active in football and contribute to a regional league club.
Previously, Sithebe had a successful spell at AmaZulu FC, where he became a key player, making 132 appearances and contributing eight goals and nine assists. His performances there earned him a transfer to Kaizer Chiefs, where he was expected to enhance the midfield.
Sadly, his time at Chiefs fell short of expectations, as he made 39 appearances across all competitions without finding the net. After leaving the club, Sithebe moved to Richards Bay to reignite his career but was unable to make a significant impact.
Flamingo FC has confirmed his signing and is optimistic that his professional experience will benefit the team. With a background at established clubs like AmaZulu and Kaizer Chiefs, Sithebe possesses valuable insights into competitive football.
The club's hopes are pinned on the former Bafana Bafana international to bolster their squad as they aim for promotion to the third division. For Sithebe, this move signifies a fresh start to continue his playing career and prove he still has much to contribute. His immediate challenges will involve integrating with the team, regaining match readiness, and helping Flamingo FC strive for promotion.
