Former Cape Town Spurs Defender Makes Big Announcement About His Football Future

Ex-Spurs Defender Targets Professional Comeback After Career Setback

Former Cape Town Spurs defender Kiyaam Bull is refusing to give up on his professional football ambitions despite currently competing in the ABC Motsepe League with Grassy Park United in the Western Cape.

The 27-year-old remains determined to return to the professional ranks, having experienced the challenges of trying to rebuild his career outside the country's top two divisions.

Bull understands that the journey will not be easy, particularly because professional opportunities in Cape Town have become increasingly limited. However, the defender believes that maintaining discipline, working hard and staying mentally strong could eventually open another door for him.

Speaking to KickOff, Bull admitted that the lack of professional opportunities in the region has made life difficult for aspiring footballers.

“You know it's a bit difficult not having so many opportunities in Cape Town anymore. Not just for me, but for every aspiring footballer,” he explained.

Rather than allowing the situation to discourage him, Bull has chosen to concentrate on improving himself and remaining physically prepared for another opportunity.

“All I can do is put my best foot forward at all times, keep my body in shape and put in the extra work, especially when nobody is around,” he added.

His comments highlight the reality faced by many talented South African footballers who struggle to secure contracts after leaving professional clubs. For some, the challenge is not necessarily a lack of ability but the limited number of available opportunities.

Bull also acknowledged that maintaining the right mentality has been one of the biggest challenges throughout his journey. Football careers rarely follow a straight path, and players sometimes have to make difficult decisions before getting another opportunity to compete at a higher level.

However, the former Spurs defender remains optimistic about what lies ahead.

He is currently representing Grassy Park United under manager Andrew Pequeno, with the club targeting promotion from the ABC Motsepe League. Bull believes that helping his current team achieve that objective could bring him closer to his personal ambition of returning to professional football.

“God-willing, Inshallah, we will gain promotion and be back in professional football,” he said.

Bull's football journey began in 2015 when he joined the Ajax Cape Town academy from the Old Mutual Academy. During his development years, he participated in junior international tournaments and was also part of the club's MultiChoice Diski Challenge squad.

He subsequently gained experience with Black Leopards and La Masia in the Motsepe Foundation Championship before moving into the semi-professional ranks.

His story reflects the difficulties experienced by players attempting to revive their careers in South African football. The ABC Motsepe League can provide an important platform for footballers seeking another chance, but promotion remains a demanding challenge.

For Bull, the immediate priority is clear: perform consistently, remain ready and help Grassy Park United achieve promotion.
