Abdeslam Ouaddou Reveals Why He Is Happy With Orlando Pirates’Carling Knockout Cup Round of 16 Draft

Orlando Pirates' head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has shared his thoughts on the favorable draw for the Carling Knockout Cup Round of 16, where the Buccaneers will host Milford FC. The Moroccan coach believes that playing in front of the club's fans could provide a significant edge, although he anticipates a tough matchup.

The Pirates learned they would face Milford during Wednesday night's draw, having previously encountered them in the Betway Premiership this season, where they won 2-0 in their opening match.

Despite that victory, Ouaddou is not considering the upcoming cup match to be straightforward. He acknowledges that Milford has shown they can compete against stronger teams, necessitating thorough preparation and focus from the reigning champions.

Discussing his reaction to the draw, Ouaddou stated, "The advantage or positive point is to play at home," as reported by iDiski Times. He believes that facing Milford in front of their home supporters could boost his players' confidence.

He remarked, "It’s always an advantage to play in front of our fans. But it will still be a difficult game."

His remarks indicate that while he values the home-field advantage, he is aware of the challenge Milford presents. The newly promoted side is eager to prove itself against one of South Africa's leading clubs.

Ouaddou also revisited his previous comments about Milford, cautioning against underestimating the team in their first encounter. He noted, “You will remember when we played Milford in the first game of the season, I said not many teams will beat them.”

He commended Milford's organization and discipline, highlighting their confidence and endurance, suggesting that the cup match could be more competitive than some fans might believe.

For Orlando Pirates, the Carling Knockout Cup represents another chance to chase silverware after their loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 final. As the defending champions, they are motivated to start their title defense on a positive note.

Conversely, Milford is determined to test the Buccaneers and showcase their development. The match will challenge Pirates' preparedness, with Ouaddou underscoring that home advantage alone won't ensure victory.

The pivotal question remains whether the Pirates can leverage their home crowd into a winning performance and take a significant step toward retaining their trophy.
