Miguel Cardoso Provides Injury Update on Teboho Mokoena as Sundowns Receive Positive News

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has provided an update on Teboho Mokoena’s injury, revealing that the midfielder is dealing with the same problem he experienced while on international duty with Bafana Bafana.

Cardoso explained that Mokoena sustained a strain to the medial ligament on the inside of his knee. However, the Sundowns coach offered some reassurance, describing the injury as relatively minor and expressing confidence that the midfielder would recover quickly.

According to Cardoso, the problem is not a new one, suggesting that the midfielder had already been dealing with the issue during his time with the South African national team.

The injury update comes as a concern for Sundowns, given Mokoena’s importance to the team’s midfield. The 29-year-old has established himself as a key figure for both his club and country, contributing through his passing, defensive work, physical presence and ability to influence games from midfield.

Mokoena is known for his ability to control the tempo of matches, break up opposition attacks and support forward movements. His long-range shooting and contribution during set-piece situations have also made him an important attacking option.

At international level, the midfielder has been a regular presence for Bafana Bafana, featuring in major competitions and helping the national team compete against some of Africa’s strongest sides.

His importance to Sundowns means that any injury concern surrounding him is likely to attract attention from supporters, particularly during a demanding period of the season when the club is competing across different competitions.

However, Cardoso’s comments suggest that the injury is not considered serious at this stage. The coach indicated that the problem should be resolved within a short period, although the exact recovery timeline and Mokoena’s availability for upcoming matches were not confirmed.

Speaking about the midfielder’s condition, Cardoso said:

“The injury for Teboho is not a new one, it’s the same. It means that he had a situation in the national team.

“He had a stretch on the inside ligament. It’s good it’s not a big thing, it will be overcome very, very quickly.”
