Orlando Pirates may have sealed a 3-0 win over Milford FC on Tuesday night, but head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou is not impressed. The Buccaneers booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout, yet the Moroccan boss was reportedly unhappy with how his side let the game slip out of their control at times.
His message to the squad was blunt: "We are not here to nurse people!" In other words, nobody is getting a pat on the back for simply winning. Ouaddou wants his players sharp, disciplined and switched on for the full 90 minutes, no matter who is standing across from them.
Pirates fans will happily take the progression, and a comfortable scoreline is never a bad thing. But for a club with the history and expectations of Orlando Pirates, the football has to look right too. Dominating possession, controlling the tempo and staying organised are all part of the standard Ouaddou is setting.
The Buccaneers have a chance to build real momentum here. Still, Ouaddou's comments make it clear that the job is not done, and complacency is the last thing he wants to see as the silverware chase continues.
So here's the question for you: is Ouaddou being too harsh after a 3-0 win, or is that the mindset Pirates need to finally go all the way this season? Share your take in the comments below.
