Former Young Africans SC coach Luc Eymael has reportedly revealed details of his conversation with the club’s vice-chairman following the dismissal of South African tactician Manqoba Mngqithi, adding to the debate surrounding the Tanzanian giants’ decision to terminate the coach’s contract.
Young Africans confirmed on Saturday, 24 October 2026, that Mngqithi had been dismissed with immediate effect. The club also announced the departure of first-team conditioning coach Tshephang “Chyna” Mokaila, marking a significant change within the technical team.
Eymael has attracted attention after reports emerged that he discussed Mngqithi’s departure with the club’s vice-chairman. The Belgian coach reportedly insisted that he had been honest during their conversation. However, the exact details of their discussion remain unverified, making it difficult to establish what advice or opinions he shared with the club official.
Mngqithi’s dismissal followed a difficult spell in the Tanzanian Premier League, highlighted by a 2-1 defeat against arch-rivals Simba SC and a goalless draw with TRA United. The results left Young Africans five points behind Simba, increasing pressure on the defending champions.
Despite these setbacks, Mngqithi recorded encouraging achievements during his brief tenure. Since joining the club in July 2026, he oversaw 13 matches, winning 10, drawing two and losing once. He also guided Young Africans to the Tanzanian Community Shield title and secured qualification for the CAF Champions League group stage following an impressive 8-1 aggregate victory over Madagascar’s CFFA.
These achievements have raised questions about whether the club’s recent domestic performances justified his dismissal, particularly given his overall record.
Mngqithi previously worked with Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows, establishing himself as an experienced figure in South African football.
His departure now leaves Young Africans searching for a replacement capable of restoring their domestic momentum while maintaining their continental ambitions. Meanwhile, supporters will be watching closely for further details about Eymael’s reported conversation and Mngqithi’s next career move.
