Chiefs vs Siwelele: Latest Team News As Amakhosi Prepare For Carling Knockout Battle

Kaizer Chiefs are set to resume their Carling Knockout campaign when they face Siwelele FC in what promises to be an intriguing encounter in Polokwane on Sunday evening.

The match presents another important opportunity for the Soweto giants to strengthen their ambitions of winning silverware this season, but they will have to overcome a determined Siwelele side eager to make a statement against one of South African football's biggest clubs.

Amakhosi head into the encounter knowing that knockout football leaves little room for mistakes. A strong performance will be required from the opening whistle, particularly against opponents who will be motivated to cause an upset.

The biggest team-news concern for Chiefs is the absence of Inácio Miguel, who is suspended following his red card in the recent Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates. Rushwin Dortley is expected to step into the central defensive position alongside Thabo Moloisane.

There are also fitness concerns surrounding several players. Langelihle Phili, Bradley Cross and Khanyisa Mayo have been reported unavailable, while new signing Elias Mokwana is not yet considered match-fit. Coach Fernando da Cruz has indicated that Mayo is making progress but is not physically ready to return.

However, Chiefs will be encouraged by the attacking form of Wandile Duba, who scored a brilliant hat-trick in their 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy in the previous round. His performance has strengthened his chances of leading the attack against Siwelele.

On the visitors' side, coach Godfrey Mosoetsa will be without Aphiwe Baliti, who is suspended. However, Siwelele have received a boost with the return of experienced forward Zakhele Lepasa, while Vincent Pule is also available.

Siwelele will be hoping to make life difficult for their opponents, particularly with former Chiefs winger Tebogo Potsane among the players capable of causing problems in the attacking areas.

Da Cruz has warned his players against underestimating their opponents, insisting that their previous league victory over Siwelele will not guarantee another positive result.

The Chiefs coach has emphasised the importance of developing a winning mentality in knockout competitions, with qualification for the semi-finals being the immediate objective.

With both teams having plenty to play for, Sunday's encounter is expected to provide an entertaining contest. Chiefs will be favourites on paper, but Siwelele have an opportunity to create an upset and make a significant statement.

The match is scheduled for 18:00 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Team-news details are based on pre-match reports; predicted selections are not confirmed starting line-ups.
