Former Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has suffered a disappointing setback after his team lost 2-1 to amateur side Wifaq Widad in a match aimed at preparing for upcoming league action.

The result was an unexpected blow for Nabi, who would have hoped to use the fixture to sharpen his team's performance, build confidence and ensure his players were ready for the challenges ahead. However, the defeat means there is still work to be done as preparations continue.

Facing an amateur team provided an opportunity for Nabi's side to gain valuable match fitness, test different tactical approaches and improve their understanding on the pitch. Instead, the 2-1 loss raised questions about the team's readiness for competitive football.

Although friendly and preparation matches do not always reflect a team's true quality, results can still offer important lessons for coaches. Nabi will likely be keen to examine the mistakes that contributed to the defeat and identify areas that require improvement before the next league fixture.

The match could also provide an opportunity for the technical team to assess individual performances, particularly among players hoping to secure regular places in the starting lineup. Such encounters allow coaches to evaluate their options and determine which players are capable of delivering when the pressure increases.

For Nabi, the priority will now be to help his players respond positively to the setback. Improving defensive organisation, taking chances in front of goal and maintaining concentration throughout the match could be important areas of focus.

While losing to an amateur opponent may attract attention, the real test will be how the team reacts in its next outing. Nabi will want to see greater discipline, improved teamwork and a stronger performance when league action resumes.

Ultimately, the defeat serves as a reminder that no opponent should be underestimated. Nabi's side must learn from the experience and turn its attention towards making the necessary improvements before its next competitive challenge.
