Speculation that former Orlando Pirates star Patrick Maswanganyi has had his contract terminated at Al-Khaldiya SC has been firmly dismissed. The 28-year-old midfielder’s representatives have spoken out and labelled the claims as fake news. They have also raised serious concerns about a possible character assassination attempt aimed at the South African player.
The rumours first surfaced over the weekend and quickly spread across local and international football platforms. Reports suggested that Maswanganyi’s time in Bahrain could be cut short after he struggled for regular game time following a promising start. Some outlets even claimed an off-field incident involving the technical staff had led to the club deciding to part ways with him. A few reports went further and published quotes attributed to the player in which he allegedly admitted to an argument and offered an apology.
Maswanganyi’s camp has now moved quickly to shut down the story. According to KickOff, the representatives have made it clear that the contract remains intact and that the midfielder is still part of the Al-Khaldiya squad. They have described the circulating information as an attempt to damage his reputation and have called for the focus to return to football matters rather than unverified personal claims.
The Tembisa-born playmaker joined Al-Khaldiya in August after a successful spell at Orlando Pirates. During his time with the Buccaneers he made 120 appearances, scored 28 goals and contributed more than 20 assists while helping the club win multiple trophies. He made an immediate impact in Bahrain, registering assists early in the season, but has featured less regularly in recent weeks as the technical team rotated the squad.
Al-Khaldiya, one of Bahrain’s ambitious top-flight sides, have not issued any official statement confirming a termination. With the representatives now publicly rejecting the reports, the immediate noise around Maswanganyi’s future has been quietened. He is expected to continue working to regain his place in the starting line-up as the Bahraini season continues.
For South African supporters who watched him develop into a fan favourite at Pirates, the latest development offers some relief. Maswanganyi remains focused on proving his worth abroad while his representatives work to protect his name from what they view as a deliberate attempt to undermine him.
