Pirates Told They Are Being Unfair to Key Striker Despite His Impressive Goalscoring Record

Orlando Pirates have been encouraged to give Norwegian striker Sebastian Pedersen more opportunities on the pitch after former club midfielder Sifiso Myeni raised concerns about the forward’s limited involvement since joining the Soweto-based side.

Myeni believes the 27-year-old deserves a reasonable chance to demonstrate his abilities under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, particularly given his impressive goalscoring statistics before arriving in South Africa.

Pedersen joined the Buccaneers from Norwegian outfit Sogndal during the off-season, signing a two-year deal. Despite the expectations surrounding his arrival, he has struggled to secure a regular place in the team, with his appearances remaining limited.

Before moving to Pirates, the striker reportedly found the net 51 times in 117 appearances. His record suggested that he could provide valuable attacking strength for the club, which continues to seek effective options in front of goal.

Speaking on Omni Audio Africa, Myeni questioned the difference in opportunities given to Pedersen and other forwards. He pointed to Evidence Makgopa, Boitumelo Radiopane and Yanela Mbuthuma as players who have been allowed to feature, arguing that the Norwegian should receive similar treatment.

According to the former midfielder, allowing Pedersen more playing time would give both the technical team and supporters a clearer picture of what he can offer. He believes the striker should not be judged without receiving sufficient opportunities to prove himself.

Nevertheless, Pedersen's situation may also be influenced by his adjustment to a new environment. Ouaddou previously suggested that the forward needed time to improve his fitness and settle into the team.

Adapting to a different country, league and tactical approach can be challenging for any new signing. Building an understanding with teammates and meeting the coach's expectations may also require patience.

Despite these considerations, Myeni maintains that Pedersen deserves a genuine opportunity to establish himself at Pirates.

More playing time could help the striker regain confidence, demonstrate his finishing ability and compete for a more prominent role in the squad.
