Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has issued a stern call to action to his squad ahead of Saturday’s crucial Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs. Speaking directly about the high standards surrounding the club, Ouaddou stressed that playing for the Buccaneers is a privilege that requires absolute dedication, discipline, and mental fortitude. He emphasized that wearing the club’s famous shirt is about far more than individual football talent, demanding that every player give maximum effort on the pitch.

The timing of his message highlights the immense pressure surrounding one of the most prominent fixtures in South African sport. Games between Pirates and Chiefs are defined by intense emotion, local pride, and high stakes for both sets of supporters. Facing a fixture where a single mistake can decide the outcome, Ouaddou made it clear that reputation and past achievements carry no weight. Every member of the squad, regardless of experience or status, is expected to step up, accept personal accountability, and work for the benefit of the collective team effort.

For Orlando Pirates, navigating the derby successfully requires balancing aggressive energy with tactical control. The pressure in these matches often leads to rushed decisions or lapses in focus, which makes emotional composure and clear communication vital throughout the ninety minutes. Ouaddou wants his side to maintain their focus under pressure and respond effectively whenever the game becomes demanding.

By setting high expectations before kick-off, the head coach has placed the responsibility squarely on the shoulders of his players. Supporters will be watching closely to see if the team can translate their manager's firm guidance into a disciplined performance when they face their arch-rivals this weekend.
