Chippa United have reportedly parted ways with experienced coach Dan Malesela, who was in charge of the club’s DStv Diski Challenge team, following a disappointing start to the 2026/27 campaign.
According to iDiski Times, the Eastern Cape-based club has decided to end its working relationship with Malesela after a poor run of results left the reserve team struggling near the bottom of the league table.
Chippa United have managed just three points from their opening five matches, leaving them in 15th position. The disappointing results are reportedly among the key factors behind the decision to make a coaching change.
Malesela, popularly known as “Dan Dance”, is an experienced figure in South African football who has coached several teams during his career. However, his reported departure highlights the pressure faced by coaches to produce positive results, even at reserve-team level.
The DStv Diski Challenge serves as an important platform for developing young talent and preparing promising footballers for professional careers. Chippa United rely on their reserve side to nurture players who could eventually earn promotion to the senior team.
Following Malesela’s reported exit, the club will need to identify a suitable replacement capable of improving performances and lifting the team away from the lower end of the standings.
The incoming coach will inherit a side that needs to rebuild its confidence, improve consistency and start collecting valuable points as the season progresses.
For the players, a possible change in leadership could provide an opportunity to impress and establish themselves under a new technical team.
Meanwhile, Malesela will have to consider his next career move as he looks to continue his coaching journey.
Chippa United will hope the reported decision brings the desired improvement and helps the DStv Diski Challenge side get its season back on track.
