Young Bafana Bafana player Relebohile Mofokeng came on as a substitute during Royale Union Saint-Gilloise's convincing 3-0 win over KFC Nijlen in the Belgian Cup on Sunday. The defending champions have advanced to the Round of 16 as they aim to defend the trophy they won last season.
Mofokeng began the match on the bench and entered the game in the 64th minute when the score was still tied. Just five minutes after his introduction, Raul Florucz scored to give his team the lead. Royale Union SG continued to build on their momentum, with Besfort Zeneli adding a second goal in the 80th minute, followed by Kamiel Van de Perre, who sealed the victory with another goal three minutes later.
This win marks a significant achievement for the club as they juggle their cup ambitions alongside their European goals. Mofokeng was also active in Royale Union SG's UEFA Europa League campaign last week, where he played the full 90 minutes in their 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad from Spain. The former Orlando Pirates winger is gaining crucial experience as he works to become a regular in the squad of the Belgian champions.
Next, Royale Union SG will focus on the Europa League, preparing to face Hapoel Be'er Sheva on Thursday, October 22.
