Mamelodi Sundowns Set for Qatar Challenger Cup Showdown With PSG Final in Sight

Mamelodi Sundowns are preparing for another major international challenge after securing a place in the Challenger Cup in Qatar, where the South African giants will have an opportunity to test themselves against top-level opposition on the global stage.

The Brazilians are scheduled to play at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Qatar on 12 December 2026, facing the winner of the Derby of the Americas in a crucial encounter that could bring them one step closer to an exciting final against French powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The tournament presents a significant opportunity for Sundowns to showcase their quality beyond African football and demonstrate why they remain one of the continent's most competitive clubs.

Under the guidance of head coach Miguel Cardoso, the Tshwane-based outfit will be eager to make a strong impression against international opposition. Sundowns have built a reputation for their possession-based football, technical ability and attacking ambition, qualities they will need to demonstrate if they are to progress in the competition.

The 12 December encounter will be particularly important, as victory would secure Sundowns a place in the final scheduled for 16 December, where they would face PSG.

A potential meeting with the French champions would be a major occasion for the South African side, offering players an opportunity to compete against some of the biggest names in world football.

However, Sundowns must first overcome the challenge awaiting them in the Challenger Cup semi-final. Their opponents will also arrive with ambitions of reaching the final, meaning the Brazilians cannot afford to underestimate the task ahead.

For the club and its supporters, the prospect of reaching a final against PSG adds further excitement to the December assignment.

Sundowns will hope to represent South African football with distinction and turn their participation in Qatar into a memorable international campaign.
