Football analyst Mdu Sibeko has questioned the future of Kaizer Chiefs under the Motaung family’s leadership, arguing that selling the club could be the best option for reviving its fortunes and restoring its position among South Africa’s leading football teams.
Sibeko has expressed doubts about whether the children of club founder Kaizer Motaung Snr. can implement the changes needed to improve the team’s performance. He believes new ownership could introduce a different approach and provide an opportunity for the Soweto giants to rebuild.
“Kaizer Motaung Snr. must sell Kaizer Chiefs — that’s the ONLY way he can save this team. His children are failing,” Sibeko said.
His remarks have reignited debate about the club’s management, ownership structure and long-term direction. Kaizer Chiefs, affectionately known as Amakhosi and the Glamour Boys, remains one of South Africa’s most popular football clubs, boasting a rich history and a substantial supporter base.
However, the club continues to face pressure from fans demanding improved performances, consistent results and a serious challenge for the Betway Premiership title and domestic cup trophies.
Supporters increasingly want to see the team return to the level of success associated with its most dominant periods.
Sibeko’s criticism also raises broader questions about the Motaung family’s influence and whether changes in leadership could help restore the club’s competitiveness. His comparison between Kaizer Chiefs and the African National Congress (ANC) further highlights his concerns about established institutions struggling to adapt under long-standing leadership structures.
