Macs Page Stretchered Off With Oxygen After Scary Rugby Incident in Cape Town

Welsh winger Macs Page gave rugby fans a scare during the Scarlets' United Rugby Championship match against the Stormers at DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, October 24, 2026. The 21-year-old appeared to lose consciousness after his head hit the turf during a tackle by Springbok fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.

Page was trying to score his second try of the match when he was brought down close to the line. His head seemed to strike the ground heavily, and he spilled the ball forward. Feinberg-Mngomezulu stayed beside him as medical staff rushed onto the field. A stretcher was also brought on, and several medics gathered around the player while players and spectators watched anxiously.

Page was eventually helped to his feet and walked off, with medical staff supporting his head. He was wearing an oxygen mask as he left the pitch. There has been no confirmation of how serious the injury is or how long he could be out.

The moment was especially worrying because Page has been in strong form this season. He had already scored his fifth try of the campaign before the incident. That form had led to calls for him to get more recognition at international level, but he narrowly missed out on Wales' 39-man autumn squad earlier in the week.

Scarlets director of rugby Nigel Davies had backed him for a call-up. "Obviously he's been excellent in the first block of the season. It's great that we've got seven boys in there and a lot of people are saying we should have eight with Macs," Davies said. Page went on Wales' summer tour of Japan in 2025 but has not yet won his first cap.

The fact that he walked off the field offered some reassurance, but he will need further medical checks to find out how serious the injury is. The incident was also a reminder of the physical risks of professional rugby, especially when players take heavy blows to the head in tackles.
