Rassie Erasmus Names Yaqeen Ahmed and Luan Giliomee Among Six Springbok Newcomers for Europe Tour

Rassie Erasmus has selected six uncapped players, including Yaqeen Ahmed and Luan Giliomee, in a 37-man Springbok squad for South Africa’s upcoming November Nations Championship tour of Europe.

The selection represents an important opportunity for the newcomers to establish themselves at international level as the Springboks prepare for a challenging series of fixtures. Ahmed and Giliomee are among the fresh faces included as head coach Erasmus continues to assess the depth of talent available to the national team.

Erasmus has built a reputation for identifying promising players and giving them opportunities to prove themselves in the green and gold jersey. Including six uncapped players in the travelling squad suggests that the coaching staff are keen to explore new options while maintaining the team’s competitive standards.

For the selected newcomers, the European tour could provide valuable exposure to international rugby and an opportunity to learn from experienced Springbok teammates. Joining the national setup would also allow them to demonstrate their abilities in a demanding environment, where physical strength, tactical discipline and consistency are essential.

Ahmed and Giliomee will be hoping to make the most of their inclusion as they seek to move closer to earning their first international appearances. Although selection for the touring squad does not automatically guarantee game time, it places both players in a position to impress the coaching staff during preparations and the tour itself.

The presence of six uncapped players also highlights the importance of building squad depth for the future. International rugby places considerable demands on players, and having a wider pool of capable options can help South Africa manage injuries, workload and competition across different positions.

The November Nations Championship tour will therefore be significant not only for the Springboks’ immediate ambitions but also for evaluating emerging talent. New players will have the chance to adapt to the team's systems, understand the expectations of international rugby and compete for greater involvement in future campaigns.

With Erasmus overseeing the selection, attention will be on how the newcomers respond to the challenge and whether any of them can turn their first call-up into an international debut.

The 37-man squad combines established Springbok experience with fresh talent, giving the coaching staff an opportunity to assess promising players while preparing for the European fixtures. Ahmed and Giliomee will be among those eager to seize their opportunity and make a lasting impression on the national setup.
