Mngqithi Breaks Silence After Yanga’s 4-0 Win: 'One Day This Will Haunt Us

Mngqithi Unhappy Despite 4-0 Win! 😳 South African Coach Warns Young Africans Over Missed Chances

South African tactician Manqoba Mngqithi has warned his Young Africans SC players that their failure to convert scoring opportunities could cost them dearly in the CAF Champions League, despite their convincing 4-0 victory over Madagascar champions CFFA.

Young Africans delivered an impressive performance in the first leg of their second preliminary-round encounter on Saturday, 17 October 2026, putting themselves in a commanding position to advance towards the group stages of Africa’s premier club competition.

However, the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach was not entirely satisfied with his team's display, particularly their inability to turn several promising opportunities into goals.

Mngqithi Concerned About Missed Opportunities

Despite celebrating four goals, Mngqithi believes his players must improve their finishing if they hope to compete successfully against stronger opposition as the tournament progresses.

The South African coach was particularly frustrated by the number of chances his team wasted during the opening half, when Young Africans dominated proceedings but struggled to establish a comfortable lead.

"My unhappiness is with the number of chances we don’t take because I know one day it will haunt us," Mngqithi said, highlighting an issue that could become costly against more experienced continental opponents.

According to reports, Young Africans created more than seven promising scoring opportunities in the first half alone, demonstrating their attacking superiority but also exposing their shortcomings in front of goal.

Four Goals Put Young Africans in Control

Despite their finishing concerns, the Tanzanian giants eventually produced a convincing result against their Malagasy opponents.

Cheikh Touré opened the scoring in the 39th minute after reacting quickly to a goalkeeping error, giving Young Africans a deserved advantage before the interval.

The visitors returned from the break with renewed intensity, and Albert Kangwanda doubled their lead in the 47th minute.

Mudathir Yahya extended the advantage seven minutes later, before Maxi Mpia Nzengeli completed the scoring in the 59th minute to secure an emphatic 4-0 victory.

Young Africans also dominated possession, registering 20 shots compared with CFFA's seven, underlining their control of the encounter.

Mngqithi Wants Greater Clinical Finishing

Although the result places Young Africans in a favourable position ahead of the return leg, Mngqithi knows that the challenges will become tougher as the competition progresses.

The coach will therefore expect his attackers to demonstrate greater composure and precision when opportunities arise.

Young Africans are scheduled to face CFFA again on Wednesday, 21 October, at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.

With a four-goal advantage, qualification appears within reach. However, Mngqithi's message is clear: creating chances is important, but converting them could ultimately determine how far his team goes in the CAF Champions League.
