Orlando Pirates legend Jerry Sikhosana has made surprising and humorous revelations about his famous goal during the club’s historic 1995 CAF Champions League campaign, joking that witchcraft rather than his footballing ability was responsible for the memorable strike.

Sikhosana, who played an important role in the Buccaneers’ historic continental success, also revealed that he nearly missed the team’s trip because he had been absent from training for almost a week before their departure.

According to his account, the situation became serious enough that club chairman Dr Irvin Khoza had to delay the plane to ensure that Sikhosana was collected and included in the travelling squad. The revelation provides an amusing insight into the circumstances surrounding one of the most important achievements in the club’s history.

Despite the uncertainty before the trip, Sikhosana eventually joined his teammates and became part of the squad that conquered African football in 1995.

Orlando Pirates made history that year by becoming the first South African club to win the prestigious CAF Champions League. The achievement established the Buccaneers as a major force on the continent and remains one of the proudest moments in the club’s history.

Sikhosana’s contribution to that memorable campaign earned him a special place in the hearts of Pirates supporters. However, his latest comments demonstrate his humorous approach to discussing his achievements, with the former striker jokingly attributing his famous goal to witchcraft instead of taking credit for his ability.

He also suggested that he does not consider himself an Orlando Pirates legend, a statement that may surprise supporters who remember his contribution to the club’s continental triumph.

For many Buccaneers fans, Sikhosana remains an important figure whose name is associated with the club’s greatest moments. His latest revelations have brought renewed attention to the historic campaign, reminding supporters that the journey to success sometimes involves unexpected challenges.

Although Sikhosana may downplay his legendary status, his contribution to Orlando Pirates’ historic 1995 achievement remains an important part of the club’s rich footballing history.
