Sekhukhune United Snatch Late Winner Against Marumo Gallants

Sekhukhune United grabbed a dramatic 2-1 win over Marumo Gallants in the Betway Premiership on Saturday, thanks to a 92nd-minute goal from Bethuel Muzeu. The result moved Babina Noko into sixth place on the table, level on points with Kaizer Chiefs in fifth, while Gallants remain rooted to the bottom with only two points.

The match, played at Peter Mokaba Stadium, started brightly for the home side. In the 30th minute, Oageng Phiri broke the deadlock when he raced through on goal, rounded the Gallants goalkeeper and finished into an empty net. Sekhukhune went into the break with a 1-0 lead and looked comfortable for large parts of the first half.

Marumo Gallants improved after the restart and pushed for an equaliser. Their pressure paid off in the 78th minute when a cross was deflected into his own net by Sekhukhune defender Melusi Buthelezi, levelling the scores at 1-1. The visitors suddenly had hope of claiming a valuable point as the game headed into the final stages.

Sekhukhune refused to settle for a draw. With time running out, substitute Bethuel Muzeu rose highest to head home from close range in the 92nd minute, restoring his side’s lead and sealing the three points. The Namibian international, who has only recently settled at the club after a transfer from Black Leopards, delivered the perfect impact off the bench.

The victory is a big boost for Sekhukhune, who now sit sixth with 14 points from eight matches, matching Kaizer Chiefs on the same tally. The result keeps them firmly in the hunt for a top-eight finish and a possible place in the continental competition spots. For Marumo Gallants, the defeat leaves them still without a win this season. They remain last on the log with just two points from eight games, increasing the pressure on the team and coaching staff as the relegation battle intensifies.

Saturday’s late winner showed the character in the Sekhukhune squad and gave their supporters something to cheer about. Gallants will need to respond quickly if they want to climb off the bottom of the table.
