Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Efmamjjasond González is enjoying an impressive revival in China after scoring a hat-trick for Nantong Zhiyun in their 3-1 victory over Foshan Nanshi on Saturday.
The Colombian forward was in outstanding form, scoring all three goals to help his team secure an important Chinese League One victory.
González opened the scoring in the 17th minute before doubling his side's advantage in the 31st minute. Foshan Nanshi responded with a goal in the 36th minute, reducing the deficit and keeping the contest competitive.
However, González completed his hat-trick in the 58th minute, restoring Nantong's two-goal lead and securing the victory.
The 27-year-old continues to impress in China, with his latest performance further highlighting his growing importance to the team.
According to iDiski Times, González has scored 13 goals in 16 league appearances this season and also registered one assist. His tally places him within reach of the league's leading goalscorer, Giovanny, who is reportedly four goals ahead.
The result was also significant for Nantong Zhiyun, who bounced back from a narrow 1-0 defeat against Changchun Yatai to strengthen their position in second place.
The club's season report confirmed that Nantong finished the campaign with 57 points from 30 matches. They recorded 16 victories, nine draws and five defeats, securing second place and promotion to the Chinese Super League for the 2027 season.
González's performances have attracted attention among South African football supporters, particularly those who remember his disappointing spell at Kaizer Chiefs.
The striker joined Amakhosi on loan from Bolivian club Real Santa Cruz during the 2023/24 season. However, he struggled to make an impact at Naturena, failing to score or provide an assist in 13 appearances.
His departure from Chiefs gave him an opportunity to rebuild his career elsewhere, and his current goal-scoring form suggests that he has made the most of that opportunity.
Although his success in China cannot change his disappointing record in South Africa, it demonstrates how circumstances and opportunities can influence a footballer's career.
At 27, González still has several years ahead of him, and his impressive performances in China could open the door to even greater opportunities.
