Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando Da Cruz has addressed Nkosingiphile Ngcobo’s limited playing time, explaining what the midfielder must do to earn more opportunities and challenge for a regular starting position.
Ngcobo, popularly known as Mshini, has struggled to secure consistent minutes at Amakhosi, prompting questions from supporters about his role in the squad. Despite his technical ability, competition for places has made it difficult for him to establish himself as a regular member of the starting line-up.
Da Cruz has sought to clarify the situation, indicating that the midfielder needs to maintain his effort and continue working hard if he wants to increase his involvement in the team.
The coach has previously stressed that there is no personal issue involving Ngcobo. Instead, his selection decisions are influenced by the performances of other players competing for positions in the squad.
“There is no issue with Mshini. Mshini just needs to continue to work a lot,” Da Cruz explained.
The French coach added that continued hard work could help Ngcobo earn further opportunities, pointing to the midfielder’s appearance against Golden Arrows in the MTN8 Cup as an example of the chances he has already received.
His message suggests that Ngcobo remains part of the coach’s plans, but must continue demonstrating his readiness to contribute whenever called upon.
For the midfielder, the challenge will be to make the most of future appearances while convincing the technical team that he deserves a more prominent role. Consistency in training and performances during matches could be important in strengthening his case.
At Kaizer Chiefs, competition for starting places remains intense, with players expected to prove their value as the team pursues its objectives across competitions.
Da Cruz’s explanation provides insight into why Ngcobo has not featured regularly, placing the emphasis on effort, performance and competition within the squad.
The midfielder’s next task is to turn that message into action and work towards securing more playing time as the season progresses.
