Siwelele FC head coach Godfrey Mosoetsa believes the temporary suspension of league football because of the 2026 Local Government Elections has given his team a timely advantage ahead of their Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final clash against Kaizer Chiefs.
Mosoetsa explained that the break in domestic league action has allowed his players to dedicate more time and attention to preparing for Sunday's important encounter without having to worry about other league commitments.
According to the Siwelele coach, Wednesday's election-related interruption came at the right time for the club, giving the technical team an opportunity to concentrate entirely on the upcoming cup fixture.
He believes the additional preparation time could prove valuable as Siwelele get ready to face one of the biggest and most supported football clubs in South Africa.
The Free State-based outfit will be hoping to take full advantage of the opportunity when they meet Kaizer Chiefs, with both teams determined to secure a place in the semi-finals of the competition.
For Mosoetsa and his players, the encounter represents an important opportunity to make progress in the Carling Knockout Cup and keep their hopes of lifting silverware alive.
However, defeating Amakhosi will not be an easy assignment, considering the quality, experience and expectations surrounding the Soweto giants.
Siwelele will therefore need to deliver a disciplined and determined performance if they are to overcome Chiefs and book their place in the last four.
With additional preparation time behind them, Mosoetsa will be hoping his players can turn the unexpected league break into a positive result when the two sides meet on Sunday.
