From Simba to Raja:Fadlu Davids Lands Head Coach Role in Morocco Bombshell

South African coach Fadlu Davids is set for a new chapter in his career after being appointed head coach of Moroccan giants Raja Club Athletic, following his departure from Tanzanian heavyweights Simba SC.

The 43-year-old tactician, who is currently in South Africa, will jet out to Morocco tomorrow to officially take charge of the Casablanca-based side. His appointment marks a return to familiar territory, as Davids previously served as Raja’s assistant coach during the 2020/21 season, helping the club secure the Botola Pro title in an unbeaten campaign.

Raja Club Athletic, one of Africa’s most storied football institutions, is seeking to restore its dominance both domestically and on the continental stage. The club has reportedly assured Davids of full support to rebuild the squad and compete fiercely in CAF inter-club competitions, where Raja has historically been a powerhouse.

Davids’ coaching journey has seen him hold key positions at clubs such as Maritzburg United and Orlando Pirates, where he gained valuable experience at the highest levels of African football. His most recent spell at Simba SC, although short-lived, enhanced his profile in East African football circles.

Speaking on his imminent move, insiders close to Davids suggest he views the Raja opportunity as “unfinished business” and a chance to make his mark as head coach at a club where he already enjoyed success.

For Raja fans, the return of a coach with proven experience in their setup brings renewed optimism. The Casablanca giants are determined to reclaim their place among Africa’s elite, and Davids’ appointment is seen as a strategic step toward achieving that goal.

Davids’ first major test will come in balancing domestic league commitments with the high expectations of CAF Champions League qualification and progression. With the backing of the club’s hierarchy and his familiarity with Moroccan football, the South African coach will be under pressure to deliver results swiftly.
