CHIEFS IN TROUBLE: Doctor Khumalo Reportedly Questions Da Cruz After Stellenbosch Stalemate

Fans of the Kaizer Chiefs have rekindled the discussion about the club's coaching choices, this time wondering if Nasreddine Nabi and Fernando Da Cruz are both being given more leeway to produce consistent results at Naturena.

Da Cruz has led Amakhosi to an undefeated start in the Betway Premiership with three wins and five draws in eight matches. Though the streak is encouraging, the club's fans are worried that they should be winning more often given their current record of draws.

The discussion has made people wonder if Nabi would have gotten the same support if he had done the same thing. The amount of time a coach should have to develop a winning squad is a contentious topic among supporters of one of the most prominent football clubs in South Africa.

Despite claiming a mutual and amicable split, Chiefs and Nabi formally parted ways on October 10, 2025. In September, the club announced that he was no longer associated with the team, and talks about his future persisted.

A dissatisfying 3-1 loss to Sekhukhune United was part of an uneven start to the 2025–26 season, which led to Nabi's departure. While he was at Naturena, he did help Chiefs win a major trophy in 2025, finally ending their trophy drought of ten years.

That accomplishment has complicated evaluations of his overall performance and is an integral component of his legacy.

Remarks purportedly made in October 2026 by Khalil Ben Youssef, who was Nabi's assistant, have also recently come to light. Ben Youssef allegedly said that the Tunisian coach left because of differences with the club's board. Although the claim provides an alternative viewpoint on the split, it does not provide sufficient evidence to support the conclusion that a certain action was necessary.

Improving Da Cruz's already impressive winning record is his first order of business. Although staying undefeated brings some stability, what Chiefs fans really want are more victories, better play, and a real shot at major titles.

It is unclear if Da Cruz or Nabi gets more playing time, but the comparison does show how much pressure any coach given the task of returning Kaizer Chiefs to their previous level of success would have.
