Deon Hotto Earns Namibia Call-Up on His 36th Birthday Ahead of Crucial AFCON Qualifiers

Namibia's Deon Hotto, an international player, received a call-up to the national team on his 36th birthday, underscoring his ongoing significance as a seasoned winger for the Brave Warriors of Orlando Pirates.

He has been named to Namibia's roster for two crucial matches against Cameroon in the qualifying series for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). These games are vital for Namibia as they aim to enhance their chances of qualifying for the tournament.

The first match is set for November 12, when Namibia will play Cameroon away, followed by a second match on November 16 in Gaborone, offering both teams another chance to vie for essential qualification points.

This latest selection marks a significant moment in Hotto's international journey, as he prepares for his seventh AFCON qualifying campaign and enters his 15th year of playing for his country.

His vast experience has made him a key player for the national team, having earned 84 caps and scored 12 goals, reflecting his consistent contribution to Namibia's football aspirations.

At the club level, Hotto remains a reliable member of the Orlando Pirates. In his seventh season with the team, he has appeared in 257 of 283 matches, making him a key figure, with around 90 percent participation in the team’s games.

Head coach Collin Benjamin's decision to include Hotto again demonstrates his trust in the veteran player. Even at this stage of his professional career, he continues to deliver significant performances for both his club and country.

Recently, Hotto showcased his skills in a match against Milford FC, proving he can still make impactful contributions despite his age.

For Namibia, his experience will be invaluable as they prepare for two tough encounters with Cameroon. His knowledge of international football may be crucial in achieving positive outcomes in the AFCON qualifiers.

Hotto’s most recent call-up highlights his lasting importance to Namibian football. At 36, he maintains the confidence of his national team coach, illustrating that a player's ability to compete at a high level is not solely dependent on age.
