Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Willard Katsande has identified consistency as one of the key areas his former club must improve if they want to return to competing regularly for major honours in South African football.

The Amakhosi legend believes the Soweto giants need to maintain a steady level of performance throughout the season if they are to challenge the leading teams and secure a place among the Premier Soccer League’s top sides.

Katsande explained that competing with the strongest clubs requires more than producing impressive performances in individual matches. According to him, Chiefs must develop the ability to deliver positive results regularly rather than alternating between good displays and disappointing outcomes.

"For me, I just feel like they just need to have consistency. When you want to compete with the big boys, and you want to be part and parcel of that top three we were last season, we need to be consistent."

His remarks highlight an important challenge for Chiefs as they seek to build on their previous progress and establish themselves among the leading contenders in domestic competitions.

Consistency can be influenced by several factors, including squad stability, tactical discipline, player availability and the ability to maintain concentration during difficult periods. For a club with the history and expectations of Kaizer Chiefs, delivering reliable performances is particularly important because supporters demand regular success.

Katsande’s comments also underline the importance of turning promising performances into tangible results. Winning individual matches can boost confidence, but sustaining that momentum across a full campaign is essential for teams hoping to finish near the top of the standings.

Chiefs will need to demonstrate greater reliability if they want to compete consistently with their major rivals and strengthen their position in South African football.

Although Katsande has highlighted consistency as a priority, the club’s overall progress will depend on how effectively the players and technical team address their challenges throughout the season.
