Former Kaizer Chiefs striker Efmamjjasond González is enjoying an impressive spell in Chinese football after scoring a hat-trick to help Nantong Zhiyun secure a 3-1 victory over Foshan Nanshi on Saturday.

The Colombian forward continued his excellent goalscoring form with three goals in the encounter, showing a remarkable improvement from his disappointing spell in South Africa.

González played a major role in the victory, giving Nantong the lead in the 17th minute before scoring again in the 31st minute to put his team 2-0 ahead.

Foshan Nanshi reduced the deficit through Yao Hui in the 36th minute, giving the visitors an opportunity to fight their way back into the match.

However, González ended their hopes of a comeback when he completed his hat-trick in the 58th minute, securing all three points for Nantong Zhiyun.

The victory was an important response from Nantong, who had suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Changchun Yatai in their previous league match.

The result also helped the team maintain second position on the Chinese League One table as they continue their efforts to catch league leaders Guangdong GZ-Power.

González has now registered 13 goals and one assist in 16 league appearances this season, putting him among the competition's leading scorers. He is also chasing the top goalscorer, Giovanny, who currently has a four-goal advantage over him.

His current performances represent a major turnaround from his unsuccessful spell at Kaizer Chiefs.

The 27-year-old joined Amakhosi on loan from Bolivian club Real Santa Cruz during the 2023/24 season. However, he struggled to establish himself at Naturena and failed to score or provide an assist during his limited appearances.

His time at the Soweto giants did not produce the results expected, and he eventually left the club to continue his career elsewhere.

González has now found his scoring touch in China, where his goals are playing an important role in Nantong Zhiyun's promotion ambitions.

His latest hat-trick could leave some Kaizer Chiefs supporters wondering why he struggled to produce similar performances during his time at Naturena.

Nevertheless, the Colombian striker is currently enjoying one of the best periods of his career, and his latest performance has further demonstrated his quality in front of goal.
