Wiliete head coach Beto Bianchi has explained the tactical approach his team used to frustrate Mamelodi Sundowns and secure a goalless draw in the first leg of their CAF Champions League second qualifying round encounter in Angola.

The Angolan side delivered a disciplined performance against the reigning African champions, preventing them from finding the back of the net despite their attacking quality and experience in continental competitions. Wiliete's defensive organisation played an important role in ensuring that Sundowns left Angola without a victory.

Bianchi's tactical decisions were central to the outcome, as his players worked hard to limit the South African club's opportunities in the final third. Wiliete focused on maintaining their defensive structure, closing down spaces and making it difficult for Sundowns to establish their usual rhythm throughout the contest.

Sundowns are widely recognised for their possession-based approach and ability to create scoring chances through patient build-up play. However, Wiliete demonstrated determination and discipline, ensuring that the visitors could not easily break through their defensive lines.

The result represents an encouraging achievement for Bianchi's team, considering the reputation of their opponents in African football. Holding the Champions League holders to a draw provides Wiliete with confidence as they prepare for the decisive second leg of the qualifying tie.

For Sundowns, the stalemate means they will need to produce a stronger attacking performance in the return fixture if they hope to secure qualification for the next stage. Their inability to score in Angola also highlights the challenges they can face when opponents successfully disrupt their preferred style of play.

Bianchi's explanation of Wiliete's strategies offers insight into how his team approached the difficult assignment. Rather than allowing Sundowns to dictate proceedings comfortably, the Angolan side concentrated on making the match competitive and denying their opponents the freedom needed to create clear-cut chances.

The goalless result leaves the contest delicately balanced ahead of the second leg, with both teams still having an opportunity to advance. Sundowns will be expected to use their home advantage and attacking strength to improve their chances, while Wiliete will aim to build on their defensive success.

Ultimately, Wiliete's performance showed that tactical discipline, teamwork and effective organisation can make a significant difference against stronger opponents. Bianchi will hope his players can maintain the same determination when the two sides meet again to determine who progresses in the CAF Champions League.
