Rulani Mokwena’s Pyramids FC continued their winning run with a 2-0 victory over El Daklyeh in the Egypt Cup on Saturday, taking their record to 15 consecutive wins in all competitions. The result also sent Pyramids through to the next round.

Pyramids made an early breakthrough. In the eighth minute, Youssef Obama received a through pass and finished into the bottom corner to give his side the lead. They controlled much of the match after that, limiting El Daklyeh’s chances and reaching half-time with a one-goal advantage.

Mokwena made a change after the break, bringing on Ahmed Abdel Qader for Awouda Al-Fakhoury. Pyramids continued to press, and Mostafa Fathi doubled their lead with a powerful shot into the top corner after cutting inside near the edge of the penalty area. The team looked for further goals late in the match but finished with a 2-0 win.

The victory extended a remarkable start for Mokwena at the Egyptian club. The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach has maintained a perfect competitive record since taking charge, and Pyramids have established themselves among the leading sides in Egypt. Their run includes both league and cup matches, showing the team’s ability to carry its form across different competitions.

For South African football, Mokwena’s progress abroad is a notable achievement. His success in Cairo has drawn attention to the growing presence of South African coaches in major African leagues. However, a long winning streak is only one measure of a team’s season. Pyramids still face the demands of the league campaign and upcoming continental matches, where consistency will be tested.

For now, the club can take confidence from a 15th straight victory and a place in the next round of the cup.
