Another Pirates Technical Staff Member Has Reportedly Left the Club

Orlando Pirates Reportedly Part Ways With Joseph Makhanya Following Ncikazi’s Departure

Orlando Pirates have reportedly parted ways with former player and coach Joseph Makhanya, popularly known as Duku-Duku, raising further questions about possible changes within the club’s technical and development structures.

According to reports, Makhanya has left the Soweto giants, although neither the club nor the former midfielder has publicly explained the circumstances surrounding his reported departure. The development comes shortly after Pirates confirmed the exit of assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi on October 22, 2026.

Makhanya shares a long-standing relationship with the Buccaneers, having represented the club during his playing career before transitioning into coaching. Following his retirement from professional football, he remained involved with Pirates, contributing to the development of young players and working within the club’s youth structures.

He later coached the club’s DStv Diski Challenge team, where he played a role in preparing promising youngsters for the demands of professional football. His experience and understanding of the club made him a familiar figure within Pirates’ development system.

However, his responsibilities eventually changed when he was moved from the DStv Diski Challenge setup to Pele Pele FC, the club’s feeder team competing in the Gauteng ABC Motsepe League.

His reported departure has now created uncertainty about his future involvement in football and whether additional changes could follow within Pirates’ technical department.

Meanwhile, Ncikazi’s departure marked another significant development for the Buccaneers. The experienced coach left after expressing his desire to return to a head coaching position and subsequently joined Lamontville Golden Arrows, where he previously worked as head coach.

Ncikazi contributed to Pirates’ success during his time at the club, making his departure an important change as the team continues competing on multiple fronts.

With Makhanya also reportedly leaving, supporters will be watching closely for further developments.

However, Orlando Pirates have yet to officially confirm Makhanya’s departure, meaning the circumstances surrounding his situation remain unclear. Further details are expected to provide clarity on his future and the club’s development plans.
