Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mothobi Mvala has shared the emotional challenges he experienced during his lengthy injury layoff, admitting that there were times when he feared he might never wear the club's jersey again.

The experienced centre-back revealed that being away from the team for an extended period was difficult, particularly because he was uncertain about what the future held for his football career.

However, returning to the squad has brought him enormous happiness and relief after months of rehabilitation and uncertainty.

Speaking about his comeback, Mvala expressed how special it feels to be reunited with his teammates and once again participate in the team's activities.

"I was worried if I would ever be back in the team and now, I'm back with the guys. The feeling is amazing," Mvala said.

His emotional admission highlights the mental struggles footballers often experience when recovering from serious injuries. While rehabilitation focuses on physical recovery, the uncertainty of losing one's place in a competitive squad can also take a significant emotional toll.

During his absence, Mvala had to watch from the sidelines as Sundowns continued competing in domestic and continental competitions without his services.

His return is therefore an important boost for the Tshwane giants, giving coach Miguel Cardoso another experienced defensive option as the club pursues its ambitions this season.

Mvala will now be hoping to regain his full fitness, rebuild his match sharpness and establish himself as an important member of the squad again.

After fearing that his Sundowns journey could be over, the defender can finally look forward to playing alongside his teammates once more.

For Mvala, this comeback represents more than a return to football; it is a personal victory after a difficult period.
