Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has voiced his belief in his squad’s ability to overcome African Stars as the South African club prepares for the second leg of their CAF Champions League qualifying tie. The Buccaneers will enter the encounter with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, hoping to complete the job and book their place in the next round.

The Soweto-based side has put itself in a promising position following its narrow victory, but Ouaddou knows that his players must remain focused throughout the return fixture. Any lapse in concentration could give African Stars an opportunity to change the outcome of the tie.

Pirates are also determined to make progress in this season’s continental competition after experiencing a disappointing exit last campaign. Their journey ended against FC Saint-Eloi Lupopo, who recovered from a 3-0 deficit before eventually eliminating the South African outfit through a penalty shootout.

That painful experience serves as a reminder that an advantage in continental football does not automatically guarantee qualification. Nevertheless, Ouaddou believes his players are mentally prepared and ready to meet the demands of the upcoming challenge.

"The players are ready, they know exactly what they have to do," said Ouaddou speaking to the media. "We need the whole team connected, to row on the same side together to reach the target. There are no nerves we are impatient to play that game."

His remarks reflect the importance of teamwork, determination and tactical discipline as the Buccaneers approach this decisive encounter. Playing at home could provide Pirates with additional confidence, but they must translate that advantage into an effective performance on the pitch.
