Rumour has it that Mandla Ncikazi, formerly of the Orlando Pirates, will be taking over as head coach of the Golden Arrows after Pitso Dladla left. Following a losing streak, the Durban-based club is hoping to get back on track.
Golden Arrows is a previous employer of Ncikazi's. He was an integral part of the team's fourth-place performance in the Premier Soccer League in 2020–21. His rumoured return to Arrows was made possible by Pirates' previous confirmation that he was quitting his position as assistant to head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou to accept a head coaching position.
Ncikazi reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with a monthly salary of R350,000. Until Golden Arrows make a formal announcement, those elements, including the duration of the agreement and the compensation, should be viewed with care.
He will likely succeed Dladla, who was appointed manager after Manqoba Mngqithi's departure from Arrows to play for Young Africans SC in Tanzania. With a perfect record through their first six matches, Dladla got off to a strong start. The fact that Arrows won the MTN8 over Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns gave its fans reason to be optimistic. Their performance deteriorated thereafter, and they allegedly lost five straight games. The decision to switch coaches was prompted by such pressure.
Because of his familiarity with the club's culture and South African football, Ncikazi may be able to adapt fast. Restoring faith among the players, establishing a pattern of consistent performance, and restoring the team's winning streak will be his top priorities. It is his responsibility to evaluate the team and choose the best way to play based on the personnel he has.
If his two-year contract is approved, he will have enough time to contribute to the club's objectives; nonetheless, there will undoubtedly be great expectations for a rapid advancement. When he returns, Arrows supporters will be hoping for stability. A lot of eyes have been on the rumoured compensation, but ultimately, his performance will determine how long he stays with the club.
