Liverpool did it the hard way on Tuesday, but another European win is under the belt, and Andoni Iraola’s side looks to be well on course to reach the knockout stages in the Champions League.
The Reds made it nine points out of nine with a 4-3 victory over Villarreal, thanks to Alexis Mac Allister’s double and goals from Ronald Araujo and Florian Wirtz.
Iraola would no doubt have preferred it if his side hadn’t needed to stage a comeback, and he would have liked to have a few more players to pick from for the game, having been dealt more fresh setbacks ahead of the tie.
Here is the latest on the injury front following the 4-3 win over Villarreal…
Victor Munoz becomes the latest injury concern for Liverpool, having missed Tuesday’s win over Villarreal with a knee injury.
The winger was not spotted during training on Monday, and then raise further worries when he didn’t arrive with the rest of his teammates at the team hotel ahead of the game, going on to be left out of the squad at Anfield.
There is still no official word on the severity of the problem for the 23-year-old, but Liverpool will be keeping its fingers crossed its nothing more sinister than it first appears.
Potential return date: Unknown
Dominik Szoboszlai’s return was much shorter than anyone would have hoped. Having missed two games following the international break, he’d last just over half-an-hour before being forced off against Brentford with a recurrence of his hamstring problem.
That would end up keeping him out of Tuesday’s game against Villarreal, although Iraola has suggested it shouldn’t keep him out for too long.
“It’s not a new injury, I think it’s in the same place it was probably last week,” Iraola said on Monday.
“He hasn’t worsened the injury but probably we have to be a little bit more patient until he recovers fully.
“But it’s not like something now where he has to wait a lot of time to come back, he is more or less in the same situation he was last week.”
Potential return date: Unknown
Jeremie Frimpong is set for another spell on the sidelines, with more injury problems rearing their ugly head after a stop-and-start first season with the Reds.
The 25-year-old last just six minutes after coming off the bench at Brentford at the weekend, and Iraola is not expecting an immediate recovery.
“It’s going to be difficult, I think, before the [November international] break,” Iraola said on a potential return date fro Frimpong. “We will try but it’s going to be difficult to have him.”
Potential return date: November
Giovanni Leoni has suffered a setback in his recovery from the ACL injury that has kept him out for over a year now following his debut for the club.
The 19-year-old had been expected to make a return to training during the most recent international break, but his comeback has been pushed back, with Iraola suggesting it may now have to wait until the next break in November.
And that’s just his return to training, with the young defender needing to build up his fitness before a return to match action can be considered.
Potential return date: December

Conor Bradley is on course to make his long-awaited return before the end of the year. The right-back has been out since January after picking up a serious knee injury agaisnt Arsenal.
Although there was talk of him playing in the World Cup had Northern Ireland qualified, that target looks to have been ambitious, but the defender looks set to return to training soon.
Iraola has confirmed Bradley is “not so far” away from joining in with the rest of his teammates, with the 23-year-old looking as though he could be back on the training pitch at some point next month.
Potential return date: November
Hugo Ekitike also looks to be on course to make a return before the end of the year, although it is touch and go whether he will be back on the pitch before 2026 comes to a close.
Recent reports in France have suggested he will be able to make a return to training next month before targeting being back in action in December. Iraola has confirmed that the striker is progressing well in his recovery, although he is a little behind Bradley in terms of timelines.
