Nigeria’s Super Falcons have fallen seven places in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, dropping from 36th to 43rd position globally.
Despite the decline, the 10-time African champions remain Africa’s highest-ranked women’s national team, maintaining their lead over South Africa, Morocco, Ghana and Zambia, who occupy the second to fifth positions on the continent, respectively.
The drop in the rankings comes after a disappointing run of results in recent months, including Nigeria’s quarter-final exit at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Falcons endured defeats against Malawi and Cameroon during the tournament before suffering a 2-1 loss to South Africa in the playoffs for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
These results have contributed to the team’s recent struggles on the international stage, raising concerns about their performances ahead of upcoming competitions.
However, the Nigerian side recorded some positive results in their bid to qualify for the 2028 Olympic Games, securing two victories over Comoros in the qualifying rounds.
The latest rankings serve as a reminder of the need for improved performances as the Super Falcons continue preparations for future international assignments.
The next edition of the FIFA Women’s World Rankings is scheduled for release on Monday, December 7, 2026
