Bruno Fernandes is reportedly making a concerted effort to regain the support of Manchester United fans after a turbulent few weeks. The midfielder has come under fire as a result of his explosive comments following last week's Champions League thrashing at the hands of Como. He publicly questioned Michael Carrick's tactical approach and insisted that it was up to the 45-year-old to sort things out, rather than the players.

Those comments led to Fernandes being dropped to the bench for United's defeat to Bournemouth over the weekend. He was sent to warm up during the second half, but remained an unused substitute throughout the game.

Along with his United team-mates, he was roundly booed by the fans inside Old Trafford after the final whistle. Carrick, meanwhile, was serenaded by the home supporters as he walked down the tunnel.

Fernandes later appeared to undermine Carrick by liking an Instagram post with the caption: "Never push a loyal person to the point where they no longer care."

Now, it has emerged that the United skipper has been trying improve his image, with The Sun reporting that he is making a conscious effort to win over the hearts of supporters.

It's claimed that he has been granting more autograph requests than usual while driving in and out of the club's Carrington training base in what is being described as a "charm offensive".

Fernandes usually heads straight into the training ground, but he was spotted posing for pictures and signing autographs for young fans on Tuesday.

He was also among the players to greet fans as part of the club's annual Dream Day, which gives supporters with life-altering illnesses the opportunity to meet their heroes.

Fernandes was quoted as saying: "It’s very special for us to be here and be able to give a little bit of joy to the kids and their families. It’s always a very proud moment for us to make their day.

"They are always so positive and have such kind words, that energy goes both ways and this is what Manchester United is all about. It is part of the culture of the club."

It's been reported by Sky Sports that Fernandes could return to the United side for their next game against Chelsea, having held clear-the-air talks with Carrick earlier this week.

A line is expected to be drawn under their recent differences, with both parties determined to focus on winning football matches.

Other reports have suggested that while Carrick will get the opportunity to turn things around, he could still be sacked in the November international break if United's form doesn't improve by then.
