Halmstads BK secured their first away victory of the season in dramatic fashion, defeating Västerås SK 2–1 thanks to an 92nd-minute winner from Hussein Carneil at Hitachi Energy Arena.

Late Goals Overturn Västerås Lead

In the 86th minute, Pascal Gregor equalized for the visitors, connecting with his back to the goal to head past the defense. Deep into stoppage time, Carneil secured the comeback by curling a shot into the far corner past a stationary Elis Jäger, the Västerås goalkeeper, as reported by SVT Nyheter.

Det betyder jättemycket, säger Hussein Carneil till Hallandsposten. This shows our team morale, how strong we are together. We believe in it all the way, and that is what decides whether we stay in the Allsvenskan or not.

The hosts were left lamenting missed opportunities to secure the match earlier. It’s simply too bad.

Halmstads BK and Västerås Share Equal Top Flight Wins

According to club records from Halmstads BK, Friday’s fixture marked the twelfth Allsvenskan meeting between the two clubs, leaving both teams with six wins apiece in the top flight. The match drew 3,459 spectators to Hitachi Energy Arena, down from the 4,664 who attended the corresponding fixture in Västerås during the 2024 season.

Despite managing only five total shots compared to Västerås’s six, and mustering just one corner kick against the hosts’ ten, Halmstad controlled 52 percent of the possession. Midfield work rate proved high for the visitors, with Tom Trybull covering 13,399 meters and Joel Allansson running 13,108 meters. André Boman registered the team’s top speed at 32.31 km/h.

Referee Glenn Nyberg booked Rami Kaib in the 24th appearance he has officiated involving Halmstad, 21 of which were in the Allsvenskan. The yellow card means Kaib will serve an automatic suspension for the next fixture after accumulating cautions over the campaign.

Standings Implications in the Relegation Battle

With the win, Halmstads BK remains at the foot of the table but closes the gap on Degerfors in the relegation position, though rivals in the lower tier hold games in hand. Carneil emphasized the squad’s narrow focus heading into the final stretch of the campaign. Every match is important. We take it step by step, match by match, slowly but surely.
