Set to take the stage at the 2026 SEMA Show, Formula Drift champion Chris Forsberg has introduced the Datsun S30, a concept that combines classic styling with a twin-turbo Nissan Z engine.
Formula Drift champion Chris Forsberg has unveiled a restomod project that merges the Datsun 240Z’s classic styling with modern performance. The Datsun S30 Concept maintains the iconic profile of the original Japanese sportscar, while integrating engineering from the latest Nissan Z. Forsberg and his team designed the vehicle to honour the heritage of the nameplate while adding contemporary capability. The custom build will be on display at Nissan’s 2026 SEMA showcase.
Under the bonnet, the build features a modern twin-turbo VR30DDTT V6 engine, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The powertrain utilises Nismo cold air intakes and heat exchanger to improve cooling efficiency. Garrett PMAX turbochargers enhance boost delivery, while a Nismo twin-disc clutch and flywheel manage power transfer to the rear wheels through a Nismo R200 limited-slip differential.
A high-performance fuel setup supplies the twin-turbo engine reliably. The installation incorporates a Radium Engineering fuel cell system alongside a DeatschWerks fuel pump rated at 450 litres per hour. Engine protection relies on synthetic motor oil formulated for racing applications. A carbon-fibre engine cover secures the bay and lowers overall vehicle weight.
To control the increased power output, the chassis relies on a complete suspension overhaul. Techno Toy Tuning supplied billet control arms, coilovers, sway bars, and strut tower bars to increase rigidity. Stopping power comes from a Wilwood disc brake conversion featuring six-piston front calipers and four-piston rear calipers gripping slotted rotors.
The exterior retains the classic coupé shape, while substituting steel with lightweight carbon-fibre panels. The bonnet, bumpers, front wheel arches, hatch, and spoiler all feature custom carbon construction. The car wears Nissan Seiran Blue paint, complemented by a Nismo decal set that highlights its heritage. Custom forged wheels wrapped in performance tyres complete the package.
The cabin balances minimalist motorsport design with functional updates. OMP Silverstone racing seats anchor the interior, matched by custom door panels and a Techno Toy Tuning harness bar. A leather steering wheel and an aluminium shift knob enhance driver control. Custom gauges monitor engine metrics and provide accurate readings during high-speed driving.
