At WWE Elimination Chamber 2023 in Montreal, Sami Zayn challenged Roman Reigns for the WWE Championship.
The bout was the culmination of Zayn joining the Bloodline and then stabbing Roman in the back with a chair at the Royal Rumble.
The crowd support for Zayn had never been higher, but Reigns walked out of Montreal with another successful title defense under his belt on his road to being champion for 1316 days.
Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Zayn was asked if he felt he should’ve won in Montreal.
“At the time, I thought there was a case to be made for it, but going back to the domino effect thing, I don’t know. I really don’t know. I don’t think it’s ludicrous to say I should have. If you were watching at that time, I think anybody could have made that argument. But it was just again timing, and Cody was also red hot at that time, and they were building to something. Then it leads to Cody the next year, and then it’s more gratifying. Whatever it is, just yeah, I don’t know. Could, should, would- would it have worked? I think so. But who’s to say?” he replied.
Zayn would go on to headline night one of WrestleMania 39, teaming with Kevin Owens to defeat The Usos (Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso) to win the WWE Tag Team Championships.
Elsewhere during the interview, Sami reflected on his feud with Johnny Knoxville. You can find his full comments here.
